The arm tube is fabricated from Carbon
fibre for exceptional rigidity, reduced effective moving mass
of the air-bearing assembly and elimination of resonant
colorations.
Every aspect of the design and execution of
this arm has been engineered and built with one thing in mind,
which is controlling and banishing the resonances inherent in
the cartridge/arm system and those caused by the excitation of
materials due to vibrations created at the stylus/groove
interface.
Massive air-bearing
The stiffness of an air-bearing is proportional to the
projected area. In a cylindrical bearing, an increase in
length results in a linear increase in projected area and
mass, while an increase in diameter results in a linear
increase in projected area, but an increase in mass related to
the square of the increase in diameter. This results in a
complicated interaction between projected area and mass.
The Airtangent air-bearing sleeve is massive with a surface
area of 78cm², for exceptional stability and precision.
The Airtangent 2002 air-bearing is a closed-circle design with
a symmetrical array of pressure control elements - 132
micro-perforations, laser cut radially in the wall of the beam
(45. 132 Laser
cut micro-perforations). The massive (46.Massive air-bearing) air-bearing sleeve - a
total of 78cm² - in conjunction with the extremely tight
tolerance result in a film of highly pressurized air (44.Extremely
tight tolerance film of pressurized air). |
